city of Malaga and its harbour. The Alcazba and the Gibralfaro
Castle offer amazing views of the city. Visit the Alcazba,
the ancient palace of the Arab kings of Malaga, where the
Archaeological Museum is situated. The Museum contains prehistoric,
Roman and Spanish-Arabic collections. The Cathedral, a National
Monument, was built between the 16th and 17th centuries and
provides many fine examples of Spanish sculpture. The Church
of the Sangrio has a Gothic-Isabelline facade and 16th century
alter decorations. The Gibralfaro Castle was completely rebuilt
by the Arabs on its original Phoenician foundations.
THE FINE Arts museum has works by El Greco, Zurbaran and Ribera
as well as modern and contemporary collections. In Plaza de
la Merced you will see the house where Pablo Picasso was born.
MARBELLA TRIP
The group will explore the luxury holiday resort of Marbella
and the Old Marbella town, full of character. You will discover
the labyrinth of narrow streets and tiny squares, the majestic
main church Iglesia de la Encarnacion and the
Moslem castle. The very heart of the Old Town Plaza
de Los Naranjos (Orange Tree square) was constructed
in the 16th Century by clearing the maze of Moorish alleyways
that formed their medina. Some years ago Miguel
Angel Garcia, who was fascinated by the Bonsai
culture, decided to combine his hobby with his work. Visit
the only existing Bonsai Museum in Spain, which is now claimed
as one of the finest in Europe.
PUERTO BANUS TRIP
Constructed in a typical Andalusian style, Puerto Banus was
intended to copy old fishing ports, the most impressive boats,
boutiques, pubs and a wide selection of restaurants.
SAILING TRIP Dawn Approach from Fuengirola Pier
The Dawn Approach is a superb example of a ketch from the
halcyon days of sail. It is meticulously maintained to the
highest of standards... more
information.
MIJAS TRIP
Through beautiful Countryside, the coach will take the group
to Mijas, a quaint Andalusian village not far from Marbella
and Benalmadena. Mijas is set at about 1,500 feet above sea
level, which gives it wonderful views of the countryside and
coast. Its narrow streets and whitewashed houses with iron
window grills are typical of the area. The village offers
many shops selling local arts and crafts. The bullring in
Mijas, is a strange shaped arena built when the area was under
Moorish rule. Dont miss the opportunity to take a donkey
taxi ride along the village streets.
RONDA TRIP
The town of Ronda, one of the oldest in Europe, is built
on a magnificent natural amphitheatre in the middle of the
Serrania de Ronda mountain. The town was founded by the Celts
and were followed in turn by Greeks, Romans, Moors and the
Christians who conquered it in 1485. All these settlers left
their traces and the town has been declared an area of special
historic and artistic interest. Artists and writers have always
been attracted to this natural fortress town- Goya, Ernest
Hemmingway and the poet Rainer Maria Rilke among them. Visit
the cathedral, Casa Don Bosco, the 18th century bullring and
the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge). Ronda is known as the
cradle of bullfighting, Francisco Romero, who was born
here in 1698 laid down the first rules of the art of bullfighting.
In its museum, many historical torero outfits can be admired.
GRANADA TRIP
This fabulous city preserves all the enchantment and mystery
of eight centuries of Moorish occupation which lasted until
the re-conquest by Catholic kings in 1942. Visit the Royal
Chapel, a treasure house of decorative art, precious jewels
and fine paintings. The Alhambra is a castle complex of worldwide
fame and it is said to be the eighth wonder of the world.
The Alhambras layers of walled fortifications encircle several
square kilometers of immaculately manicured gardens. The Alcazar
is an enchanting and unique 14th century building of countless
chambers, corridors, painted tiles, inlaid ceilings, intricate
inscriptions, elaborate carvings and quiet pools.
